Convention
large national or international meetings of business circles,
whether for discussions or commercial exhibitions or both.
May also refer to a general and formal meeting for a legislative
body, social or economic group in order to provide information
on a particular situation.
Conference
Participatory meeting designed for discussion, fact-finding,
problem solving and consultation. As compared with a congress,
a conference in normally smaller in scale and more select
in character - features which tend to facilitate the exchange
of information. The term "conference" carries no
special connotation as to frequency. Though not inherently
limited in time, conferences are usually of short duration
with specific objectives.
Congress
Regular coming together on a representational basis of several
hundreds - or even thousands - of individuals belonging to
a single professional, cultural, religious or other group.
A congress is often convened to discuss a particular subject.
Contributions to the presentation and discussion of the subject
matter come only from members or the sponsoring body. Frequency:
usually established in advance and can be either multi-annual
or annual. Most international or world congresses are more
frequently held annually. A congress will often last several
days and have several simultaneous session.
Consumer Exhibition
Exhibition open for public, usually subject to payment of
an entrance fee.
Corporate Meeting
Gathering of employees of a commercial organization. Usually
attendance is required, whereas travel, room and most meal
expenses are paid by the organization.
Exhibition
Event at which products and/or services are displayed/offerred.
Fair
Exhibition of products or services in a specific area of activity
held with the objective of promoting business.
Forum
Meeting or part of meeting set aside for an open discussion
by recognized participants on subjects of public interests.
Inbound
Involving non-residents of a country traveling to that destination.
Also called Incoming.
Outbound
Involving residents of a country traveling to another country.
Also called Outgoing.
IAPCO
Stands for International Association of Professional Congress
Organizers. Headquartered in London, IAPCO is a non-profit
organization founded in 1968, representing professional organizers
and managers of international congresses, conventions and
special events
ICCA
Stands for International Congress & Convention Association.
With some 600 members representing various sectors of the
meeting industry in more that 80 countries worldwide, ICCA
today is the most global organization within the meetings
industry. Established in 1963, ICCA is headquartered in Amsterdam,
Netherlands. Pacto Convex has been listed as an active member
of ICCA since 1993.
Incentive
A program designed to recognize and reward. As such incentives
programs are fundamentally motivational in nature, with main
focus being on individual attendee. The social aspect of such
meeting is critical, and quality is typically not compromised
from price.
Meeting
Comprising all off-site gatherings, held in commercial
venue space, which consist of more than 15 persons. This would
include conventions, congresses, conferences, seminars, workshops,
symposiums, and associated gatherings, which bring together
people for a common purpose- the sharing of information.
Excursion
Organized outing to a specific place of interest.
Seminar
Meeting or series meetings of specialists who have different
skills but have specific common interest and have together
for training or learning purposes. The work schedule of a
seminar is aimed at enriching the skills of the participants.
Show
Organized entertainment, usually in the evening.
Symposium
Meeting of a number of experts in a particular field at which
papers are presented by specialists on particular subjects
and discussed with a view to making recommendations concerning
the problems under discussion.
Trade Exhibition
Exhibition of products and services that is not open for public.
Workshop
Seminar emphasizing free discussion, exchange of ideas, demonstration
of methods of practical application of skills and principles.
Also, meeting of several persons for intensive discussion.
